Corrugated packaging containers specialist Liberty Carton Company has expanded its business with the acquisition of Western Container Company.

Based in Minneapolis, in the US state of Minnesota, Western Container manufactures a wide range of packaging products including corrugated cartons and boxes as well as packing materials.

As part of the transaction, five employees from Western Container will join Liberty Carton Company, Healthcare Packaging reported.

Liberty Carton is one of the Liberty Diversified International (LDI) family of companies.

LDI chairman and CEO Mike Fiterman was quoted by the publication as saying: "This acquisition will provide us with important additional reach and customers in our packaging business.

"The businesses are complementary. In fact we've been a longtime supplier of Western, so we're happy to integrate Western's packaging operations with our own."

Liberty Carton general manager Craig Musselman will be responsible for monitoring the combined operation.

The financial terms of the acquisition have not been revealed.

Liberty Carton said that it will continue to use both the Western Container brand and its sister Bargain Container brand for the next several months.

Western Container will continue to operate its steel, fiber and plastic drum business from its existing facility in New Hope, Minnesota.

Liberty Carton employs four high-speed, heavy-duty single facers and it is capable of corrugating five different flute sizes: A, B, C, E, and K, and any board combination of single, double, or triple wall which allows customers to meet their individual structural specifications.

The company recycles old corrugated containers into 100% recycled linerboard that is used in making new corrugated sustainable packaging design.
